The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) accelerates the growth of clean energy markets in low- and middle-income countries, advancing the clean energy transition by increasing energy access and the productive use of renewable energy to improve lives, unlock economic opportunities, strengthen food systems and fight climate change. ABOUT THE ROLE

The role is a parental leave cover for the Head of Legal, who will continue his engagement with REEEP during his leave (March – September 2026) in the form of a minor employment. The duration of the contract for the Legal Counsel allows for an appropriate on- and offboarding with the Head of Legal. As part of REEEP Operations, the Legal Counsel will be mainly responsible for legal tasks relating to REEEP’s programmes and of the organisation in general, supporting the Head of Legal.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contracting: draft, negotiate, issue, review, manage and file contracts; develop and update templates together with Head of Legal; manage contracting for individual programmes, lead negotiation of funding agreements; manage workflow for programmes, act as first point of contact internally and externally towards service providers regarding contracts and agreements.
  • Procurement: Ensure compliance with procurement rules; guide and assist staff on procurement procedures; develop and conduct trainings to staff; drive improvement of the process. Page 2 of 3
  • Contribute to Governance and Statutory tasks
  • Compliance and Risk: raise awareness within the organisation; provide trainings to the team, monitor, update and review compliance and risk topics and policies, draft programmatic compliance manuals, contribute to and conduct specific risk assessment.
  • Data Protection: contribute with research, policy development and document updates
  • Contribute to the development of manuals, policies, guidelines
  • Execute legal research and analyses, present information internally, stay abreast of and anticipate future legal developments, build legal library together with Head of Legal
  • Document lessons learnt, propose as well as co-develop improvements on operational level
  • Contribute to design and development of new programmes, administer proposal submissions
  • Relationship management: liaise and coordinate with donors, contractors, partners such as law firms, tax advisors and auditors and REEEP’s pro bono network, i.a. act as first point of contact for external stakeholders

ABOUT THE PROFILE

Essential Criteria

  • Law degree and a minimum 3 years practical experience in the field with knowledge and experience of contract law and procurement processes
  • Essential knowledge and experience of civil law; knowledge of common law is an asset
  • Proficiency in English and German and ability to draft contracts in English
  • Self-starter with structured, organised and solution-oriented working style who is able to work independently during the Head of Legal’s absence
  • Ability to work under time pressure and deliver upon tight deadlines, while showing attention to details
  • Ability to interact with all levels within an organisation
  • Excellent computer skills (MS-Office)
  • Team player and ability to work as part of a diverse team

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in work with Non-Governmental and or Not-For Profit Organizations

ABOUT THE PACKAGE

For a 40 h/week full-time position, REEEP offers a monthly salary of EUR 3,300 (gross, paid 14 times per year, subject to Austrian social security deduction, currently free of income tax due to REEEP’s status as “Quasi International Organisation”. It further includes five weeks of paid leave per year as well as an average of 14 Austrian and UN holidays per annum. Both the 13 th and 14 th salaries as well as the paid leave will be prorated according to the duration of the employment contract.

This is a fixed-term contract whereby the envisaged starting date is 12 January 2026 and the envisaged conclusion of the contract is 31 October 2026.

REEEP employees reserve the right to work from home, however, the successful candidate must reside in Vienna. REEEP is not in the position to cover relocation costs or any other travel costs incurred, e.g. for job interviews. Any selected candidate from a non-EU country will receive a legitimation card (equivalent to a residency and working permit) for the duration of the employment. The receipt of a legitimation card is also possible for spouses/registered partners and children of the selected candidate.
