Silicon Austria Labs (SAL) seeks an experienced leader for its Photonic Systems Research Unit within the Sensor Systems Division in Villach. The role combines scientific leadership with strategic management responsibilities.

Leadership responsibilities:

• Management and further development of the research unit
• Corporate and profit responsibility
• Staff supervision and scientific support
• Interdisciplinary cooperation across divisions
• Project initiation and management
• National/international partner acquisition
• Research program shaping
• Unit growth towards excellence

Scientific responsibilities:

• Contribution to unit’s intellectual life
• Research project definition and management
• Guidance for research/engineering staff
• Collaboration with project partners
• Dissemination of results

Profile:

• PhD in engineering/physics (Optics, Photonics, Spectroscopy, Laser/Quantum Technology)
• Strong publication record
• Industrial/academic network
• Knowledge of research trends and market
• 10+ years in R&D project management
• Funding acquisition experience
• 5+ years team leadership (5+ members)
• Fluent English (German plus)
