The team for Magnetic Microsystems and Technologies (MMT) at Silicon Austria Labs is looking for a motivated Research Engineer. In this role, you will make a significant contribution to the Research Unit's projects and take responsibility for challenging tasks with a growing degree of independence and decision-making freedom.

Your future tasks include:

  • Develop electronic hardware and system architectures, program microcontrollers, and design and implement interfaces.
  • Support the assembly, integration, testing, validation, and fabrication of components, prototypes, and functional demonstrator systems in close collaboration with our electronics team.
  • Design and simulate magnetic devices and sensor systems using state-of-the-art commercial software such as ANSYS and COMSOL, as well as open-source tools including Magpylib and MuMax.
  • Contribute to cleanroom microfabrication activities for the manufacture and characterization of magnetic microsystem devices (e.g., magnetic sensors, MEMS, micro-coils).
  • Set up and perform laboratory experiments for magnetic material and device characterization, including measurements of magnetic response (VSM, FMR) and electrical properties.
  • Work with custom test benches for magnetic positioning and sensing systems.
  • Develop measurement, control, and automation routines and process and analyze experimental data using Python.

Your profile:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g. Physics, Electrical Engineering, Microsystems, System Design, Sensor Systems, Automation)
  • Background in Magnetism (magnetic sensing, magnetic devices, magnetic materials, ...)
  • Experience with experimental data acquisition and analysis
  • Experience with System design and hardware programming
  • Python programming skills of advantage
  • Professional communication skills in English

This position is subject to the Collective Agreement for employees in non-university research (Research CA) starting in occupational group E (E1 salary = EUR 4.056, paid 14 times a year) based on 38,5 hours per week).
